Saint Croce basilica
and Opera museum:

| This Franciscan basilica was
begun in 1295 on plan of Arnolfo di Cambio. It collects many
art works, between which the famous frescoes of Giotto in
the Chapels of Peruzzi and Bardi, and is universal famous
because some of the more illustrious personages of Italy are
buried inside. To cite, between the more important monuments,
the thomb of Alfieri, realized by Canova, the one of Leonardo
Bruni, realized by Rossellino, the one of Carlotta Bonaparte,
work of Bartolini. The Opera Museum, with is very interisting
celebrates work: the crucifix of Cimabue, frescoes of Taddeo
Gaddi and Andrea Orcagna and the harmonious Chapel of Pazzi,
projected by Brunelleschi. |

Cathedral of S.Maria
Fiore, Batistry, Opera Museum:

Saint Maria of Fiore, the risen
gothic cathedral rised under the ancient basilica of Saint
Reparata, was planned from Arnolfo di Cambio, that began the
works in 1296; Brunelleschi completed it in 1436 with the
elegant Cupola, that was completely frescoed inside from the
Vasari and the Zuccari.
The last work on the cathedral, with the completion of the
facade, dated from the second half of the 1800's.
On the right side of the Cathedral is rising the Bell tower,
planned from Giotto in 1334, with a plant square and covered
with greens, red and white marbles, and decorated with sculptures,
lightened from double and triple lancet windows.
In fronte of the Dome, the Baptistry of Saint Giovanni (1128)
in Romanesque florentine style, covered in white and green
marble. Inside, the cupola is entirely covered of mosaics.
The splendid bronze doors (between which the door of the Paradise)
are work of Andrea Pisano and Lorenzo Ghiberti.
In the Dome Opera Museum are conserved works coming from S.
Maria of Fiore, from the Baptistry and the Bell tower, between
which the sculptures realized for the facade of the Dome.
The more meaningful works are than Michelangelo (Mercy), Donatello
(the Maddalena, the Cantoria), Arnolfo di Cambio (Bonifacio
VIII), Luca of the Robbia (Cantoria). |

In origin it was a market and warehouse for
the grain, and was in truth one loggia planned from Arnolfo
di Cambio (1209). Only later on become a cult building: the
arches of the loggia, restructured from Simone Talents and
the exteriors embellished from newspaper stands and sculptures
in gothic florentine style.

Saint Lorenzo Basilica
and Medicee Chapels:

The original church was
consecrated in the 393 from Ambrogio, bishop of Milan; Cosimo
il Vecchio made it widen and restructure from the Brunelleschi.
Inside it conserve works of Rosso Fiorentino, Desiderio
from Settignano, Donatello and Bronzino. They place side
by side to the church the splendid Old Vestry, to square
plant, work of the Brunelleschi, and the New Vestry, of
Michelangelo (1524), the funerary Chapel of the Medici family.
The New Vestry, with the baroque Chapel of the Principles,
constitutes the museum of the Medicee chapels. On the left
of the church the michelangiolesca Mediceo-Laurenziana Library
can be visited also, wanted from the Medici family in order
to guard just the treasure of papyruses, manuscripts and
volumes.
Not far away from the complex of Saint Lorenzo, there is
the Central Market , remarkable example of nineteenth-century
late architecture in iron and glass.

Reconstructed and
widened for wanting of Cosimo il Vecchio from Michelozzo,
the convent conserve the splendid frescoes with which the
Angelic Blessed Soul decorated the cells of the friars. Inside
of the convent there is also the most elegant Library planned
from Michelozzo in 1448: containing old miniated codes, were
the first public library of the Renaissance.The church of
Saint Mark, to side of the Convent, was redesigned from Michelozzo.

Saint Annunziata Basilica:

Founded in 1250, it was widened
more resumptions and it is today one of the more important
florentine sanctuaries. The small Cloister of the Ballots
and the Cloister of the Dead men conserve fresco of Andrea
of the Sarto, Rosso Fiorentino, Franciabigio and Pontormo.
Inside the Annunziata small temple, designed from Michelozzo,
accommodates one immage of the Virgin Mary that has reputation
of being miraculous.

Museum and church of
Saint Maria Novella:

Begun in the 1246
for the friars Dominican order, it was finished in 1360. The
facade, in white and green marbles in gotico Romanesque style,
was completed from Leon Alberti Batiste that of it designed
to all the above part.
Inside the splendid grandmaster which the Trinity of the Masaccio,
frescoes of Philippine Lippi and those of the Ghirlandaio
in the Tornabuoni chapel, the Crucifix of Giotto and the ligneous
crucefix of the Brunelleschi. |
Contiguous to the
church is the Museum of Saint Maria Novella Admittance, with
the splendid Green Cloister frescoed from Paolo Uccello and
its school. In the Capitolare Hall, called also the Cappellone
of the Spanish, finds a famous fresco of A. Bonaiuto. Not
distant from the church it is Druggist Workshop of Scent of
Saint Maria Novel, where scents, soaps, essences are in sale
in a neoghotic atmosphere.

Builted in the second half of XI century,
it was widened and transformed in gothic shapes at the beginning
of the '300. The facade, in strong stone, was realized on
plan of the Buontalenti to the end of the '500. Inside the
Sassetti Chapel, with the cycle of frescoes representing history
of S. Francesco of Assisi, and the table with Adoration of
the Shepherds of Domenico Ghirlandaio (1483-86).

| The quarter
of Saint Spirit in Oltrarno, characteristic quarter of craftsmen,
restorers and antiquarians, take its name from the Church
of Saint Spirit. Planned from the Brunelleschi and begun in
1444, it is one of the beautifulst architectonic creations
of the Renaissance. Inside, the three navate in Latin cross
are on the purest style brunelleschiano. With remarkable interest
also the vestry, realized on design of Giuliano from Sangallo.
Beside the church it's the Cenacolo Of Holy Spirit with a
fragment of the Last Supper of Andrea Orcagna. |
