| Sluice is developed in one progression
of its architectonic elements, body, crown, tower. The Old
Palace rise from a closed progression of its architectural
elements: the body, the ring and the tower. The cornices,
that delimit the mass in plans, fixing in the crown and the
tower the battlement and sporti attack, order the space, than
unattainable windows from the ground floor and shaped to double
lancet windows, clarify and increase in the following plans.
|
The sequence of the empty space, than is emphasized
towards the high, the light and the shadow, that take one's
time doing in the sockets of ashalar fix to the dice an elastic
tension, merges in the deep overhangs of the crown and the
tower for giving to relief, linked up the parts in closed
unit.
The construction was begun in 1296, perhaps from Arnolfo di
Cambio, and once finished the palace, becomes the centre of
the members of the Lordship: Gonfalonieri and Priori.
Inside of the palace we find the Hall of Cinquecento, a work
of impressive architecture for measures (53 x 22 x 18 meters)
carried out from Simone of Pollaiuolo said "the Report"
in 1495 as meeting hall for the five hundred representatives
of the florentine people.
From the decorative point of view the work more interesting
is the Genius of the Victory of Michelangelo, a marble arranged
in the center niche of the right wall. The paintings of the
ceiling and of the walls, explain the conceited art of the
Vasari and the scenes of servile obedience to the Medici are
testimony of the moral expiration of the times. Old

| Signoria square represents a fundamental
point of the political life of Florence.
On the square they insist from the Palace of Signoria and
the Loggia, from the Merchandise Court.
In the center we find the equestrian statue of Cosimo.
Signoria square represents the more interesting point of
the municipal city; here in fact the secular fight for the
power was carried out and the government decisions matured.
The Palace is raising to pierce the sky with the tips tower,
in a simple architectonic line, created from blocks of stone
sawed with precision and chiseled with crudeness. Characteristics
that render it arrogant and inacessibile and it manifest
the function of fortress of the freedom. The fountain of
the square is a work of the Ammannati. Neptune, the statue
in the center, rudeness detaches in that light to deserve
the nickname of "Biancone".
The Merchandise Court was the center of the large merchants.
The loggia it is an ancient architectonic complex that is
opened on the road between the houses of "consorti"
(persons tied to the same fate) and is used for reunions
in occasion of wedding, celebrations, festivity.
He has therefore a representative function and he demonstrates
with the architectonic shapes and for the works of art that
are exposed, the importance of the consociates.
